INSTRUCTOR PROFILES

Jeff Krug

Sensei Jeff Krug commenced his Karate career with the Japan Karate Association (JKA) under Sensei Stan Schmidt in 1978, and was awarded his 6th Dan in August 2006. Jeff was awarded South African national colours in 1994 to represent South Africa at the world JKA championships in Philadelphia.

He was also a member of the JKA Executive for South Africa. Sensei Jeff has been involved with Maccabi throughout his karate career. He was on the South African Maccabi Finance committee. He represented South Africa in 1993 and 1997 at the Maccabi games in Israel, and was coach of the Australian Senior team at the 2005 Maccabi Games.

At the beginning of 2004 Sensei Jeff under chief instructor Sensei Keith Geyer formed the Shotokan Karate Coalition in Australia which has close to 1000 members. Sensei Jeff is a highly rated Karate instructor and teaches 3 times a week in Vaucluse.

Darren Krug

Darren began his karate career in 1987 in the Dinky Squad, under the instruction of Sensei Stan Schmidt in Johannesburg South Africa. He moved on to Sensei Dave Friend, where he trained in the elite squad, and was awarded both provincial and national colours.

Over the years Darren has been successful in winning numerous awards and medals at both state and national competitions in South Africa and Australia. In 1992, he was selected for the South African all styles karate team and remained in the team until he moved to Australia in 1998.

In 1996 he was awarded his 1st dan black belt, and currently holds a 3rd dan. In 2005, Darren captained the Australian Maccabiah Karate team to Israel, where his team won 10 medals.

Today Darren teaches Krav-Maga along with Karate allowing him to strengthen his skill set of martial arts, this makes his role as one of our senior instructors invaluable.

David Greenstein

David commenced his studies of Shotokan Karate under sensei Stan Schmidt in 1978 in South Africa.

After emigrating to Australia in 1988 he continued his studies under sensei Jeff Krug, also a former student of Sensei Stan.

David was awarded his 3rd in October.

He has represented Jeffsan Karate at state Maccabi and national SKC championships, winning gold at the SKC 2008 Championships in team kata and kumite.

Jacqui Chilchik

Jacqui started Shotokan Karate in 1997 in South Africa under Sensei Stan Schmidt, and was awarded her Black Belt (Shodan) in 2004. She participated in the Unison Kata Team in South Africa and won both silver and gold medals.

After immigrating to Australia Jacqui joined Jeffsan Karate Centre, and was awarded her 2nd Dan (Nidan) at the end of 2006.

Jacqui has also represented her club at local and national competitions and has taken 1st and 2nd places.

Jacqui was awarded 3rd Dan (Sandan) in September at the National Gradings in Melbourne.
She also runs a ballet school for children.
